Expanded event includes dancing, live entertainment and local acts

Grupo Control is headlining Visit Las Cruces’ second annual ¡mira! Las Cruces event, on Saturday, April 27. The group is one of many acts that will take the Robert V. Estrada stage on Plaza de Las Cruces. The event is meant to mira bannerhighlight the city’s art and culture, cuisine, outdoor recreation, and awe-inspiring sights and sounds.

Grupo Control is a norteño, cumbia group based out of Houston, Texas. Members have ties to the borderland region and their music reflects the culture and community in Las Cruces and the surrounding area. They refer to themselves as Los Reyes de la Cumbia (The Kings of Cumbia) and were founded in the late 90s. The group has 795,000 followers on Facebook with millions of videos views on the same platform.

“Last year, the response we received bringing in Rodeo Norteño was the inspiration behind this year’s headliner,” Executive Director Rochelle Miller said. “People really loved the dance lessons prior to the group hitting the stage, and the atmosphere they created really embodied the spirit of the community.”

There will be additional acts starting at 2 p.m. and throughout the day. New this year is lucha libre alongside a live DJ in the food truck fiesta area. Trick dogs will take the stage and Kids Can will expand the children's section. Performances from local high school bands and cheer groups, dance lessons, mariachi and ballet folklorico performances return.

Be advised, the City of Las Cruces will be shutting down Main Street at 5 a.m. April 27 from the north roundabout to Bowman Avenue, as well as Las Cruces and Griggs avenues. The Las Cruces Farmers and Crafts Market will move to Sunday, April 28; however, many vendors will attend ¡mira! Las Cruces on April 27 for the expanded “Farmers Market Experience” lining Main Street.
